Webinar Wednesday

The NSW Local Government Excellence Awards celebrate outstanding achievements and promote innovation and continuous improvement within NSW local government. Winners of the Innovative Leadership - Population Over 150,000 category for the Resilience Strategy – Withstand. Adapt. Thrive.

Like many areas across Australia, the Northern Beaches has endured numerous disaster events over recent years. Floods, storms, fires and COVID have placed acute stress on communities, businesses and infrastructure. Looking to extend beyond emergency response, Northern Beaches Council has undertaken one of the most comprehensive resilience bodies of work in Australia, one that establishes a shared vision to enhance community and organisational capacity to enable us to adapt and thrive in a changing world.

Northern Beaches Council’s Resilience Strategy – Withstand. Adapt. Thrive was co-designed with our community, for our community, encompassing a multi-layered engagement process involving over 1300 of our residents. The Strategic Directions provide a clear path to:

build self-sufficiency our community so we are equipped to adapt to current and future challenges in a proactive and empowering way;

increase community connection to enable us to support one another in times of crisis, particularly our vulnerable;

strengthen critical infrastructure, assets and services so they can continue to function in the face of disruption;

protect and enhance our highly valued natural environment;

facilitate safe and accessible public places and spaces that support our social, emotional and physical wellbeing;

create thriving, productive and safe communities through improved land use planning.
