Managing your team can be made more challenging with the inclusion of complex issues such as mental health impacting performance.  Navigating and balancing both the requirements of the business and the well-being of team members is fraught without clear direction, knowledge of rights and responsibilities and practical skills to support both the leader and staff involved.

In this course we will explore the leadership skill of managing complex situations, with the inclusion of mental health issues in the workplace.  It will provide leaders with case studies to explore along with practical guides and an understanding of how to manage the process from observation through to supportive performance expectations conversation.  Leaders will come away from this course with a clear understanding of what is expected of them, along with practical tools to manage the business and impacted team members.

Program Outline

This course aims to give participants the skills to manage their staff where team members may be experiencing complex issues, such as mental health challenges that impact performance.

Day one - Managing Complexed Workplace Mental Health

Topics include:

  • Early intervention signs and symptoms
  • Having a conversation: discussing mental health in the workplace
  • Your rights and responsibilities
  • Practical considerations, including managing high absenteeism
  • Legal risks if not managed appropriately

Day two - Managing Complexed Performance Management

Topics include:

  • Understanding the common issues and risks relating to performance (including probation)
  • Fostering good performance
  • Identify the difference between performance vs misconduct vs serious misconduct
  • Managing complexed performance actions during the process
  • Explaining the principle of procedural fairness and the principle of natural justice
