Emerging Leader of the Year Award

The Emerging Leader Award is an individual award that recognises a rising star, aged 35 or under, currently working in NSW Local Government.

The Award recognises young professionals who have already made a notable contribution to the sector and have demonstrated the potential for leadership and continuing service.

Nominees for this award will demonstrate initiative in developing innovative work practices and programs or creative problem solving. They will actively contribute to a work environment that is respectful, collegiate and supportive, and be an excellent role model for other young professionals in local government.

Nomination Criteria

The Emerging Leader Award is an individual award that recognises a rising star, aged 35 or under, currently working in local government. Nominees slightly outside of the age requirement may be considered by LG Professionals Australia, NSW on a case-by-case basis.

All nominees must be a current member of Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW and have their nomination submitted by midnight on Thursday 16 March 2023. No extensions will be granted.

Nominations are open to members from any NSW Councils, Regional Organisation of Councils (ROCs) and Joint Organisations (JOs).

The Award Winner Will Receive

The recipient of the Emerging Leader Award will be provided with an abundance of professional development opportunities to take their career to the next level and spotlighted throughout 2023-24 with the following:

  • A complimentary place on our Aspiring Leaders Program with a connection to a mentor who will support the recipient's professional development and career goals during the program.
  • A complimentary registration to 1x conference of the recipient's choice which will include accommodation and all program items such as conference dinners. We would highly recommend this being the Accelerate conference in November 2023.
  • A position on the Executive Committee for our Next Gen Member Network, or any other Member Network that suits the recipient's role, to help shape our offerings for members and be centre stage at our events by being an MC, facilitator or panel speaker during sessions.
  • 3x 30min one-on-one professional development coaching sessions with our Executive Manager, Gavin Carnegie.
  • A complimentary registration to the LG Awards Dinner in June 2024 to present the award and hand over the baton to the next recipient of the 2024 Emerging Leader Award. You will then be in contact with this recipient to provide mentorship, as they undertake the same duties you took throughout 2023-24.

 

Offers are subject to change depending on availability. Events may be cancelled if they do not reach minimum numbers, or if a natural disaster occurs, or the government imposes travel restrictions.
