In 2023 LG Professionals NSW escorted a delegation of local government professionals to Texas to visit councils and attend the ICMA Conference in Austin. The delegation visited four councils from the surrounding areas and explored the interesting and innovative projects that inspired and challenged thinking. The projects ranged from drone technology and cryptocurrency to the rehabilitation of an illegal garbage tip and the refurbishment of a city walk around the canal. The meetings were interactive and informative, allowing the delegation to connect with local professionals, ask questions and explore both the similarities and differences of local government in the two countries. The delegation then attended the ICMA Conference, where they reconnected with professionals, they met during their council visits and also met many other people.
In 2024 LG Professionals NSW is offering members the opportunity to participate in the upcoming delegation and then attend the ICMA Conference in Pittsburgh. Details of which councils we will visit and what projects they will showcase are still being finalised, however, you will have three days of council visits, with each showcasing different projects and the chance to connect with local council professionals.
